‘You’re Enough for Me’

You’re enough for me.

Even before & without you, I haven’t and don’t need…

  • anyone else.

  • to bond with others.

  • to hang out with other people.

  • other plans.

  • to be a busy-body.

  • to be entertained.

  • to chase away boredom.

  • to make you compete with & for me, or with others.

  • to make you jealous or to triangulate.

  • to make you fear or be threatened by me.

  • to backstab, smear, exploit & gossip.

  • an audience or fans.

  • other’s attention or approval.

  • to be liked or admired by others.

  • to be noticed, acknowledged, ore looked at by others.

  • to impress anyone.

  • to give others attention.

  • to have my lap open for others.

  • to be invited elsewhere.

  • to say “yes” when I’m invited elsewhere.

  • to belong with anyone or any crowds.

  • to fit in.

  • to kiss up or people-please.

  • to be cool.

  • to be or have “arm candy.”

  • to pretend, be artificial or wear any masks.

  • to manipulate, gaslight, fool, trick & con.

  • be something I am not.

  • to lie to myself & to others.

  • to replicate or copy others.

  • to steal your ideas, what you’ve shared with me, your identity & our shared experiences (nor to claim as my own).

  • to notice or care what anyone looks like or acts like.

  • to long for others.

  • to fantasize.

  • to watch or follow or be infatuated with anyone.

  • to be anything but professional and courteous with others.

  • to care about trends, gimmicks, fads, & social media.

  • instant gratification.

  • materialism.

  • to chase impulsive pleasures.

  • to do anything in private that I wouldn’t do around, with & include my person.

  • to self-soothe in non-wholesome, non growth-related, immature ways.

  • addictions or distractions..

  • to dissociate & escape from reality.

  • to fill the voids with scraps & superficiality.

  • to exclude you.

  • to hide anything from you.

  • to compartmentalize my life.

You’re enough for me.

I picked you because you resonate with my heart and my spirit. Your wounds are familiar and I have a tremendous amount of empathy and tenderness for your wounds. Your lifetime of loneliness is matched with mine. Your sensitivity and gentleness melds into mine.

I picked you because I see the void you have had in your life from lack of deep, fulfilling, trusting connection; I have had that void too. I knew you before I knew you. And you’re precious to me—so precious that my heart aches.

I picked you because of your quirks and idiosyncrasies—all of what makes you unique and special, without your even trying, without others even noticing. I picked you because, to me, you stand out, above and beyond anyone else.

I picked you because I know I have to give to you what you have been longing for since the day you were born. I have been longing to give it to someone who will hold it near and dear, and who will protect it and me—due to knowing only what it’s like to not have that; due to how precious and valuable and so very rare it is; due to valuing it above anything this world has to offer. It’s you who I want to give it to. All that and more.

I can say with confidence that you’re actually more than enough for me.

But.

But only if I’m more than enough for you. Only if you also don’t need those things I listed.

If that’s expecting too much of you, then please excuse me. I must have thought you were someone else.
