My Exercising Motivators

It’s important to have a motivator to exercise be something other than guilt. No one is authentically motivated by a tyrant.

Here is why I exercise every day:

Physically, my exercises are supportive of my

  • flexibility

  • strength

  • endurance

I don’t do high-impact exercises for these reasons:

  • I haven’t liked the feeling of doing high-impact exercising since I’m not young anymore—high-impact feels like I’m punishing and working against my body.

  • I believe high-impact exercises aren’t good for my joints, bones, etc.

Mentally and emotionally, this is what exercising does for me:

  • It’s a stress and anxiety release. It keeps me sane.

  • It’s an all-around strength-builder: it gives me confidence that I can handle whatever comes up.

  • It gives me a sense of accomplishment that doesn't require tons of thinking.

  • It gives my mind a break from tasks, projects and other obligations.

  • It fosters my mind-body connection.

  • It gives me valuable alone time.

  • I use the time to listen to podcasts or whatever audio I enjoy: two birds, one stone.

  • It is a life-time investment into my health and wellness.

  • It’s my caring for my best friend, me.

  • All of the above brings forth creativity, new ideas and clarity.

For all of these reasons, if I do nothing else in a day, I make sure do my exercises.
